Hand Painted Mailbox Care

Wall mount mailboxes:

Do not scratch the painting or unpainted surface of the mailbox.

Item has several coats of Outdoor Enamel spray sealer applied.

Wash with a soft sponge, only when needed. Do not use scrubbers. You can reapply the sealer to a clean and dry mailbox once or twice a year. A few even coats will be enough.  We recommend using ordinary one-step liquid car polish at least once a year to protect the item and the artwork and add to the longevity.  To further protect your mailbox you may want to caulk holes and seams with clear silicone to prevent moisture and rust.  Using galvanized screws and washers are another line of defense against rust.  Mother Nature calling – be sure to remove any corrosive bird droppings as soon as possible.

The sealer is available at Home Depot or other home improvement stores.

Post Mount Mailboxes:

Please, leave the flag slightly bent out so the painting or the unpainted area will not be scratched during operation.

Adding house numbers to the mailbox:

We do not recommend this, however If you choose to add a house number or family name to the mailbox you can use decals. You may want to put a number on your mailbox post instead.  Please, use caution when placing decals to the surface of the mailbox. Once the decal is placed do not lift it off the surface, it can damage the sealer underneath causing it to peel off, failing to protect your mailbox from the weather.

You can also use paint. Choose acrylic paint only. If you make a mistake wipe it off quickly with a moistened paper towel. Never scrub the surface of the mailbox. When the paint dries spray or brush  with several light coats of sealer, waiting about 20 minutes between coats.

We know it's not always possible but if it is; partial shade or full shade is best for your mailbox.
